Health celebration marks official opening of community gym

A special health-themed celebration event was held to mark the official opening of a popular community gym in Sheffield. Health MOTs, fruit smoothies and fitness demonstrations all featured at the opening of Concord Sports Centre’s refurbished gym. Members of Concord’s award-winning GP referral scheme, who have transformed their lives using the venue’s gym, were on hand to talk about their experiences and cut the ribbon. The first phase of a major refurbishment at one of Sheffield’s most popular community sports centres has been completed. Concord Sport Centre’s first floor Fitness Unlimited gym has re-opened to the public after a six-week project to expand and improve the Shiregreen facility. The new-look gym includes 45 pieces of state-of-the-art cardio equipment including vario, bikes, treadmills, crossovers and reclines. Gym project gets thumbs up from heart attack survivor

A heart attack survivor from Sheffield has given his backing to a major gym refurbishment project at the local sports centre which supported his recovery. Terry Green was fit and healthy until he suffered a heart attack in January 2010. The 75-year-old was rushed to the Northern General Hospital where he underwent a coronary angioplasty and stent surgery. Three months later, Terry, from Chapeltown in Sheffield, was referred by his GP to Concord Sports Centre, in Shiregreen, where he has used the Fitness Unlimited gym and cardiac rehabilitation classes to exercise his way back to good health....
